How does AWT work?
Acoustic Wave Therapy is a close relative to Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) and uses the same device. ESWT was originally used to disintegrate kidney stones and became well known for its success in orthopedics dealing with various conditions such as tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and hip tendinopathy. The AWT technique was discovered by accident following treatment of hamstring injuries with ESWT.
Connective Tissue Strengthening
Acoustic Wave Treatment uses the body's internal repair mechanisms to tighten the tissue. The acoustic wave stimulates and activates new collagen growth which contributes to strengthening of the connective tissue in the epidermal tissue layer.
By strengthening the external connective tissue layer it provides better resistance and prevents the fat cells from bulging outwards causing the cellulite.
Improves Circulation
The acoustic wave also contributes to the breakdown of the stiffened and hardened connective tissue septa which pulls the skin down and affects the circulation to the fat cells.
When cellulite reaches an advanced stage, the lymphatic and vascular system is no longer able to return a sufficient amount of protein molecules and waste products from the cellular space into the venous system.
By using Acoustic Waves we create an improvement of cellular membrane permeability.
By improving the membrane permeability the fat splitting enzymes (lipases) becomes activated. The mechanical stimulus produced by acoustic waves is known to be converted into chemical activity.
The force exerted by Acoustic Wave Treatment releases biologically active substances that lead to increased blood flow in all tissue layers, including the connective tissue.
The main objective of Acoustic Wave Treatment is to induce tightening and new formation of connective tissue to reduce cellulite and improve the appearance of the affected skin. By improving the circulation the fat cell metabolism improves and they shrink as they become healthier fat cells.
The excellent long term success has been linked to the creation of stronger and healthier tissues due to the activation caused by the Acoustic Wave Stimulation.
